Tinne Van der Straeten has served as Belgium’s Minister of Energy since 2020, focusing on affordable energy, renewable energy expansion, and energy security. She played a key role in shaping the country’s energy transition, ensuring a clear policy direction to create jobs and support sustainability.
Before her ministerial role, she built a strong career in climate and energy law, co-founding the law firm Blixt and contributing to social and environmental initiatives. She returned to politics in 2018 as an alderman in Koekelberg and was re-elected to parliament, where she worked on energy policy reforms, including securing support mechanisms for energy supply and advocating for vulnerable groups.
Her political journey began with Groen!, where she held leadership roles and served as a member of parliament, focusing on migration, environment, and energy. With a background in law and research, she has consistently worked towards a sustainable and equitable energy future.
