IN PROGRESS
Decarbonising Industry 2026
Project Description
This project contributes to EPG’s ongoing work on industrial decarbonisation, aiming to deliver evidence-based solutions to support industrial transformation in Romania and the CEE region.
As Romania’s industrial transformation faces significant headwinds, including fiscal tightening, political volatility, and limited institutional capacity, which have constrained the deployment of targeted financial instruments and delayed key policy strategies, EPG aims through this project to deepen and disseminate specific knowledge, particularly on financing options in a cash-strapped economy and on market-creation mechanisms for clean industrial products, to strengthen the business case for decarbonised production. At the same time, closer integration of Romania’s industrial sector with those of neighbouring Central and Eastern European countries will be examined as a key means to addressing shared challenges and coordinating on upcoming EU-level negotiations, including the revision of the EU ETS and the Public Procurement directives.
Within this project, EPG will initiate an assessment of Romania’s bioeconomy potential and decarbonisation pathways for light industries, including pulp and paper, food and beverage production, and tyre manufacturing, laying the groundwork for more in-depth analysis in the coming years.
