The project addresses Romania’s evolving energy landscape, including implementation of coal phase-out legislation, offshore wind development in the Black Sea, Contracts for Difference schemes, and the revised National Energy and Climate Plan. With Romania’s electricity distribution network largely developed in the 1960s-70s and facing a projected 60% surge in electricity demand by 2030, urgent action is needed on grid expansion, digitalisation, and flexibility solutions.

EPG will leverage its established network of relevant stakeholders to advance evidence-based policymaking. The work encompasses three complementary streams: quick-reaction capacity for ongoing policy debates, comprehensive analysis of grid digitalisation, and detailed recommendations for energy storage deployment.
